The other day I was attempting to make a batch of freezer sandwiches. I didn't get too far in my process of stockpiling at all. Because the first two little sandwiches I made was with the little round pie-maker press from WS. And I stood there staring at them, struck with how lion-like the shape looked...and the next thing I knew, this happened:
I was overcome with inspiration to make those little round sealed sandwiches into lion faces. A boy and a girl. And then imagined they were in love on the savannah, enter the elephants (animal crackers) and giraffes (cheddar cheese) chaperones.
The lion face details are made with icing eyes and fruit leather. I used one of the mini cutters from this set to make the animal mouths (it's the whale's water spout, turned upside down), with a teensy weensy heart shaped nose (also upside down).
The boy lion's bow tie and lady lion's mane bow are bento picks from this set.
In the mini-sized heart-shaped silicone cup are a few grapes on and pomegranate seeds.
Lion Love story. Rawr.
As for my freezer stash of sandwiches? Better luck next time, I hope. :)
