Valentine lunches - two times the love

Happy hearts day!

I have been feeling so uncreative lately and totally uninspired in the cute-food arena. Blah!  To be honest, I recently began scrapbooking again (after a 6+ year hiatus) and I am looooving it and it's pretty much all I'm obsessing thinking about these days. But I could not let another Valentine's Day go by without some lovey dovey lunches.  This morning Ethan opted for the school lunch - popcorn chicken, a delicacy to that 4th grade boy. So my little heartsy tartsy lunch eaters are Paige and Tyler today.

First up, my Paigey Pie's lunch:
Valentine lunch

- peanut butter and jelly sandwich with fruit leather decoration (cut with mini cookie cutters)
- love knots (or pretzels, whatever)
- strawberries cut into crude hearts
- applesauce

The applesauce is a really cute trick I picked up from Lunches Fit for a KidPour in your applesauce, nestle a cookie cutter into it, scoop out the applesauce from inside the cookie cutter, then fill with colored applesauce.
In my case I used a straw and sucked up the applesauce from the middle (because I'm ever so classy). My food coloring squeezer had a clog and then spurted way too much coloring, I would have prefered a pinker hue over this Dexter-ized shade of crimson.
Astrid at Lunches Fit for a Kid also made some really pretty swirly bread for Vday. Make sure to check it out!

Next up, Tyler's lunch:
Valentine lunch

Pretty much the same dealio as the first one, just different fruit leather shape atop the sandwich and I fumbled a strawberry into the applesauce which messed up the top side of it.

Paige and Tyler were thrilled to see the strawberries. It's been awhile since we've had any.

I hope you all have a lovely day!

Cute! I bet you could use the strawberry applesauce (my daughter's fave) inside the heart shape to avoid Dexterizing :)

The applesauce trick works great with yogurt too! Lunches Fit For a Kid actually saw Cristi from BentOnBetterLunches do it with yogurt first! Yum!
