The best use for a plastic zip-top baggie is to safely seal away a Kindle to read in the bathtub!
No more soggy pages stuck together and drying into ripples that don't lay flat anymore! No more attempting to balance a heavy book out of the water while trying to relax.
Never thought I'd appreciate a plastic baggie this much. ;-)
I'm not sure this baggie trick will work on readers that use a swiping motion on the screen, but since the Kindle has buttons on the sides for page-turning, it works like a charm!
After a few years of being interested in a Kindle, I finally got one this Christmas. I went with the bare-bones cheapest model
. I didn't want any bells and whistles on an e-reader, I just wanted to be able to read, period. The less fancy, the more likely my children will keep their hands off it! I still need to learn all the ins and outs of Kindling (that's a verb, right?), but so far I'm really enjoying it. When I'm not reading on my Kindle is chilling in this adorable cover/case I ordered from etsy. :)

Coincidently, the first book I read on the Kindle was Water for Elephants
. I had hesitations about reading it, because as I shared before, I really despise the circus, but the story did not attempt to make the circus endearing (nor, go out of its way to villainize it... animal circuses tend to do that well enough on their own!). I'd love to hear from Kindle users any tips or tricks you have! So far I know that I can get one free download a month from the Kindle Lending Library for being an Amazon Prime subscriber (I got Water for Elephants as my December freebie!).
Just yesterday I learned of the Kindle Daily Deal
, where one title is severely discounted. I got The Handmaid's Tale for $1.29 the other day, but missed The Life of Pi, which was available for only 99 cents the day before I found out about the Daily Deal! What are your public domain favorites? I love the bevy of free downloads in this category! I'm starting in on Pride and Prejudice (I'm embarrassed to admit I've never read it) and working my way (slowly) through Benjamin Franklin's autobiography.

amazon has a TON of free Kindle books also. About once a week I check their list of Best sellers (which lists both paid and free best sellers) here http://tinyurl.com/842qfcl grab them when you see them because they don't often last long for free if not in the public domain. Another way to get free new release books if you blog is www.netgalley.com. Publishers offer galleys of books that you can download to your kindle. Unlike book review programs you don't have to leave a review if you don't want to. Hope these help you! I have had my kindle for almost a year and I rarely have to pay for a book.
I knew when I saw the title of your post what it would be for. I just got out of the tub and was using my Kindle in a ziploc, too. I've been doing it for years! :)
A lot of libraries have Kindle books available now, too. Not sure where you live, but even my smaller area has some (not enough).
I am reading The Picture of Dorian Grey on my kindle fire......I still prefer paper boos but I can see the advantage of kindle.
I don't have a fancy book reader but I know my public library has a lot of titles to use for free. So check out your local library! I also often see free to download ebooks from blogs like Freebies4Mom and Hip2Save, so watch their posts too.

I got my husband a Kindle for Christmas and even though I'm not planning to steal it away from him (no really -- I'm not!), I'm getting all caught up in the Kindle fever that's going around our house and I've started looking around for books to read on our iPad. Of course the classics are all free, but this list has recent books. Most are by new authors so you won't find bestsellers on the list.. but I have found over 600 books that have interested me enough to download them! I especially love the Christian fiction books they have. :)

She's a terrific blogger who keeps track of daily deals, temporary freebies and super cheap books for all kinds of e-readers. One of the best things is that she's a voracious reader, so she often can offer her own opinions, reviews and commentary on books. I've loaded over 1000 free and super cheap books to my Kindle over the last two years or so. Love it.
And I LOVE the ziplock bag idea... now I really CAN read anywhere.

Favourite in public domain? Anything by LM Montgomery! She's best known for Anne of Green Gables (and numerous other places :P) but I find the characters in The Story Girl and its sequel a little more endearing. Enjoy! :o)
