1st day of Christmas: a partridge in a pear tree

Merry Christmas, bento peeps! :) I sincerely hope everyone is having a lovely day!

Awhile back when I was brainstorming Christmas themes for bentos, I came up with the idea to do the 12 days of Christmas. I originally thought I'd start on December 13, and continue until the 25th, Christmas Day, which I assumed was supposed to be the 12th Day of Christmas. I was surprised to find out (after a quick visit with google) that the 12 days of Christmas actually begin on Christmas day! Who knew?!

So today marks the official 1st day of Christmas, in which my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree.
1st day of Christmas - Partridge in a Pear Tree bento

This little snack bento holds a little cheddar cheese partridge in a pear tree. :) That being, a half pear with a tree trunk bento pick. Some Wheat Thin crackers and clementines round out the bottom. The music notes (and partridge hangy doohicky) are fruit leather. Ethan enjoyed this as an after school snack a couple weeks ago. :)

Happy holidays, everyone! :)

Hi Melissa,
I found you through facebook, I searched the word "bento" and your page came up and from there I came to your blog. I am BRAND NEW to bento food making.
My son is almost 22 months and he's a very good eater, however, I find bento an art, and it's fun not only for him, but for me too.
Thank you for sharing your creations and I'm now a follower.

I'm wondering how you're going to fit 8 maids a milking and so on into one little box!

And yeah, the 12 days of Christmas start with Christmas and end at Epiphany, which was traditionally when the wise men were supposed to have arrived. I think we should bring back the 12 days, I could use some more time off! :)

Oh heavens to Betsy, your site is so stinking adorable I think I'm going to die from a cute overload! My best friend and I are starting to do bentos for ourselves and our kids and this will be really great for us. I was also excited to see that someone took time to do their research on the 12 days of Christmas...my mom's birthday is January 6th and growing up, we always celebrated the 12 Days and ended it with a big party for her! It was always so annoying that everyone thought the 12 days were BEFORE Christmas! Thanks so much for sharing all of your ideas. I'll be back :o)

The little sandwich shapes are so cute! But, what do you do with the crusts?
