Halloweeny top row treats:
- Frankenkiwi (or Kiwistein, if you rather!)
- witch's cauldron of spooktacular confections
- ghostly bananas
bottom row tricks:
- string cheese ghosts
- hot dog mummies
- zombie remains
These mini-sized hot dog mummies are made exactly the same way as the full sized mummy I made before, the hot dog was just cut in half to make two smaller sized versions!
Explanation of Zombie Remains: the mini mummies needed a side of
Fizzle sizzle! Boil, toil and trouble! This witch's cauldron is brewing up a real mess! Cauldron contents: trail mix (pretzels, nuts and dried fruit) topped with two organic gummy worms (for realz, I got 'em from Whole Foods!) and a chocolate eyeball. Yum!
And for the pièce de résistance! My not-at-all frightful, totally delightful Kiwistein!
Frankenkiwi was totally inspired by the Little Bunny Foo Foo goon I made awhile back. :)
To fashion a kiwi Frankenstein I just sliced a little off the sides of the kiwi to make it more square-ish, peeled most of the fuzz off (leaving just enough for Frank's hairdo). The eyes are the same icing eyes I used for the goon, but I used my food safe markers

Very cute! Just posted on our Fun Finds Friday. http://kitchenfunwithmy3sons.blogspot.com/2011/10/fun-finds-friday_28.html
mama3boys, my best tip is to work fast! The decorations on kiwi are not going to last long. The peeled kiwi seeps, so things will just get more drippy the longer it sits. My best tip is that a ripe kiwi is a lot more wet than one that is not very ripe.
I just linked to this post for a bento for my son. Thanks for the amazing kiwi inspiration. http://keithaschaos.blogspot.com/2012/05/lunches-may-7th-11th.html
I used your kiwi Frankenstein for monster inspiration in my son's lunch. Thanks for sharing such a cute idea. http://keithaschaos.blogspot.com/2012/05/lunches-may-7th-11th.html
Hey! LOVE this...can't figure out what the teeth are..
what did you use to make the face on the string cheese?
what did you use to make the face on the string cheese?
amick (#57) - the faces on the string cheese are drawn on with food safe markers. :)
Anonymous #56, the teeth in the apple are almond slivers. :)
Saw you on Bon Bon Break, and seeing that they are having a get away. I Love your good ideas...too cute! I love the easy ones, like the banana ghosts, string cheese, a mummies. These are our regular foods, so I think I can manage the extra effort! Thanks for sharing!
Kiwistein is pure genius! I tried it out and shared our experience here: http://tinkerbean.tumblr.com/search/Halloween

To make the faces on the ghosts I used a food-safe marker, like these ones: Wilton Food Writer Set
