a blog-header-inspired bento & a special sursprise for YOU! :)

This bento idea has been rolling around in my noggin for a very long time. Ever since Mariah DeMarco showed me the first rough drafts of my blog design she was whipping up I've been thinking about making a bento of it. This whole bento box is inspired by my new header/title/logo!

blog header bento

We have the fruit leather star, smiling fishies, smiling orange, checkered apple, kiwi flower, cheddar and summer sausage cubes on a giraffe pick, swiss cheese and peas!

Let me just say here that I think this was the hardest bento I've ever put together. I never expected it to be. I had assumed it would be easy peasy since all the foods were already chosen for me - I just had to pop them into place. Not so! I had the hardest time getting everything to fit. The first box I tried was too small. As was the second and third box too! I finally ended up in this Sassy box, but it was a little too big (see all the gaps?!). It took me so much longer than I had expected that I had my kids all arriving home from school just as I was finishing up and there was just no more time left to mess with it anymore. Pictures were snapped and then my little girl descended upon the bento and devoured it quickly.

I think this bento will be revisited and redone at some point. I can't rest until I have my header-inspired bento done right! ;-)

And now for YOUR special surprise! Just take a look at these precious Another Lunch lunchbox notes my friend Mariah made for you! :)

This is available as a FREE printable download. Sweet little love notes to tuck into your sweet little one's lunchbox. :) I hope you enjoy them! It would be so nice of you to pop over to Mariah's blog and give her a little love by saying "thanks!". It would totally make her day. :)

This came out fantastic I think!! Kudos on all the hard work! Thanks for the awesome printable for us. I'm going to be leaving a little note in my kindergartner's lunch every day now!

PS The giraffe is my favorite! It looks exactly like the header graphic!! So kawaii!

Ashley, the giraffe pick is my favorite too! I haven't dared use it before because I was so afraid it would be lost before I could do this bento. It has been tucked away in a "safe spot" (my jewelry box - LOL!) for months just waiting this this moment. ;-)

azbaby24 - the fruit leater I buy these days is the Archer Farms (Target brand) kind. It's only $3 for a box of 10 strips (often on sale for only $2 a box), comes in many different flavors, and is organic!

This lunch could not be any cuter - I LOVE it!

Where do you get all the cute picks, face punches and so on?

This is perfect!! I just attempted the checkered apple 3 minutes after seeing this and for the first time my son who has autism ate the entire thing, in fact he kept snatching it down while I was trying to plate dinner. <3

Hello!! I discovered your blog last week....and I have to say...I have been obsessed with Bento boxes since. My little one just started the 1st Grade and I think she'll love the little surprises she'll find in her lunch bag. I just have to tell you....since I found your wonderful blog I've gone to Daiso, purchased some cute picks and Barrans. Purchased a Lunchbot and have been surfing tooooo many hours on eBay for some more cute picks and forks. I never thought I'd be sooo excited about making lunch for my daughter. Also, I just printed out the sweetest lunch notes from you. Thank you so much for all the lunch-time inspiration!!!
