In the back section is a sandwich (peanut butter & raspberry preserves), with cheddar cheese bears.
In the front section is a silicone cup of cucumber chunks, two slices of kiwi and four cherries. The cherries were pitted which made them awfully easy to arrange on the lion and tiger picks. ;-)
This bento lunch was packed in a Sassy box. The sandwich was cut into two large puzzle shapes using The Lunch Punch "match and munch" cutter. :)

so much enjoy seeing what you pack your littles to munch on. curiosity is striking...what do you do with the extra pieces of cheese that aren't cut into the shape of the day? silly question i know, but i just had to ask.
That's not a silly question, Jill! There are a few things that happen to the scraps... for fruit leather scraps I store them up in a snack-sized zip-top baggie and add them to meals at home (I have pics of this on my "fruit leather how-to" post) or to grab to stick in my bag for errands.
Cheese scraps either get eaten (by me) as I go or I give them to my baby. Or my kids will ask to eat them as I'm putting the box together (we are all a bunch of avid cheese eaters LOL!) Sometimes if there are larger sized scrap pieces I will stick them under the pretty shapes (you can just barely make out some extra cheese under the bear all the way to the right in this photo - they all had pieces under them!).
I usually eat sandwich scraps (mmm, doesn't that sound tasty?) as I go. If you are curious about what I had for breakfast on any given day you can usually get a pretty good idea by checking out what was packed in my kids' bento boxes that morning. ;-)
I am getting so many good ideas! I have another curious question...doesn't the cheese make the bread or crackers soggy? Maybe it's my own pickiness!!!
The cheese it pretty dry and it doesn't get anything soggy! My son is verrrry picky about the texture/tempature/feel of his food (and I'm not even talking about my autistic kid! LOL) and he will not eat a cracker if it's even a little soft - but the cheese near or on them doesn't cause any issues. If something that is a little wetter needs to be close to something dry/crunchy I'll use a small barrier (like barran) or a silicone cup to keep things seperated. :)
I have a question Melissa, How do you make your sandwiches so neat, I have the same lunch punch but my bread always tears, am I doing something wrong or do you punch your sandwich bread first and then fill it? ( I love your lunches!!!) My kids go goo goo gaa gaa over them.. your a tough act to follow ;-) *smile*

There are a couple things I do to make The Lunch Punch work best...
First, of course it helps if the bread is really soft and fresh because there is less resistence then. But what really works for me is to press the sandwich down a little with the palm of my hand first and what REALLY makes a perfect punch is to cut the crusts off first. The crusts sort of work to "hold up" the inner bread part, and once those are gone the bread is much more cooperative! :) I usually make the sandwich, do a quick cut off of the crusts, press and then use The Lunch Punch and it comes out perfect every time. :)

Hey Kathryn! I'd suggest a lunchbag that holds the lunch flat while being carried. My daughter carried this piggie one all year which was the perfect fit for her Sassy box...

Probably not what you had in mind for your son (LOL), but really any lunchbox that doesn't get carried on the side works great! Pottery Barn Kids has some really cute ones!

No, the piggie isn't PBK (the backpack is! LOL)- I got that lunchbox from Amazon. I can't remember what brand it was, it might be Kiddopotamus? I give the lunchbag high marks for cute fator, but it has no insulation whatsoever. It's just two layers of plastic with no padding inbetween. It wasn't a big deal for her since her lunchbag was in a chilly classroom and she had lunch just 2 hours after leaving home. I don't think I'd recommend it if it was being used in warmer conditions.
