The top section holds a butterfly pb&j sandwich (cut with my new Critter Cutters butterfly sandwich press by The Lunch Punch!). Surrounding the butterfly sandwich is: cheddar and jack cheese cut into butterfly shapes, butterfly crackers, a small flower cup holds organic yogurt covered raisins.
The bottom sections hold raspberries and cucumber flowers with carrot flower centers.
This butterfly lunch is packed in an EasyLunchbox container. :)
The sandwich butterfly is decorated with fruit leather, I cut the shapes out of fruit leather using mini-cookie cutters.
The cucumber/carrot flowers were made using two different sizes of mini-sized flower shaped cookie cutters, layered together. My daughter doesn't really care for carrots, but these were too cute for her to resist. ;-)

Not a silly question! "Bento" refers to the Japanese method of packing meals. Traditionally, it is a meal packed compactly in a single container. There can be a lot of complexity to that simple answer though, from the size of the box (traditionally calculated and determined using a specific equation taking age of person, size of person and even gender into account!); with a specific ratio of food types packed (4:3:2:1 - being 4 parts rice, 3 parts meat, 2 parts veg, 1 part "other")... but I've found in American culture for "bento" to have become synonymous with a waste-free lunch, and more so, a waste-free lunch that is presented in a single container, so that all food is available at once, and available to eat at once, as soon as the lid is opened. :)
