pizza pizzazz: a preschool bento

Back to our regularly scheduled posting...today's bento for my preschooler girl.

We have pizza. Jamie Oliver might be horrified. ;-)

Along with the pizza my little lass has a dish of organic yogurt covered raisins and a piece of fruit leather cut into a puzzle piece shape using The Lunch Punch. On the right side are cucumber and strawberries.  

She also had plain, low-fat, non-flavored milk to drink. Much less sugar than fizzy pop.  Hopefully that will put me back in Jamie's good graces? :)

April is almost over! And with it, Autism Awareness Month will be over too. Until then you get another autism awareness message from my friend Amy:

Actually, homemade pizza can be very healthy. If you have a bread machine it can make a nice ball of dough for you and you can use whole grain flours. We are allergic to yeast and many grains, so we make ours out of almond flour. My son loves pizza so I make it often. If Jaime tweets you, you'll have to brag so we can all be jealous.

Haha I think the pizza can be forgiven since it's not being served for breakfast and you probably didn't break it off of a giant slab of pizzas :P

I feel like the star of Autism Awareness Month. :)

Amy, I love you and all, but I think our KIDS are the stars of Autism Awareness Month! :) You are definitely first runner-up though. :p Thank you for letting me use your messages. I'm sure they were much more informative and interesting to my readers than if I was just quoting some boring statistic, which would have been the alternative. ;-)

Yes I'm sure Jamie Oliver would be dissappointed in a lot of the foods my kids eat for lunch. They eat pizza more than anything else I think!

I've been experimenting with homemade pizza. I made the dough in the bread machine. But sometime the dough is, well, doughy. I can't figure out how to fix it. I use a whole wheat recipe that calls for 2c white flour and 1 1/2 c. wheat flour. Anyone have any thoughts?

I would use 2c wheat flour and 1.5c white instead. are you using yeast? make sure you're letting it rise enough, that'll let it be less doughy/more fluffy. experiment with alternative flours too, rice, almond, etc. can be fun for pizza. pizza is the one kind of bread that is really okay to stay relatively flat, so best place to switch up from white flours in my opinion.
