My 2nd grader has a field trip today. The school always asks that all field trip lunches are completely disposable. Ugh.

So Magoo took a sliced orange in a zip top baggie, strawberries in a zip top baggie, Wheat Thins in a zip top baggie, a cereal bar and a box of chocolate milk. This was all packed in a paper lunch bag.
The destination of the field trip?
A tour of a landfill and then a recycling center.
Now, if that's not the height of irony, I don't know what is.

That is classic.
Hi! I just discovered your blog and I'll be back often :o) I'm fascinated with the bento idea, primarily because it's cute but also because the variety principle appeals to me.
And yes, I snorted out loud when I read the "punch line" of this post.
Happy bento-ing and keep those lovely posts coming!
That's the saddest post, ever.
Hi! I know this is an old post, but you don't have to use plastic bags to pack a disposable lunch. If I need a bag, I use wax paper bags, bought from my local health food store, or I make a little pouch out of wax paper or parchment. I haven't bought plastic bags in years!

Wow..that is just ironic, and are they at least recycled when they are disposed of?
aznlily, I sincerely doubt it. :(
Rach, that is a good idea. Our plastic bag consumption is very low at our house, but I can't see getting rid of them completely. I do store raw meat in them for freezing (we buy meat in bulk).
I also find the plastic baggies are the only way to store opened packs of fruit leather without it drying out. Of course that one baggie I use for that purpsose will last me months. LOL
